Cookie Policy

Last updated: 21 October 2026

This page explains the cookies and similar technologies used on pigeonpedia.com, and what you can do about them. It should be read alongside our privacy policy.

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files that a website saves in your browser. Similar technologies, such as browser “local storage”, work in much the same way. In the UK, the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) say a website must ask for your consent before using cookies, unless a cookie is strictly necessary for something you have asked for.

Cookies we use

We do not use advertising cookies. We use Google Analytics only if you agree to it. When you first visit, a banner asks whether you accept analytics cookies. Until you choose “Accept”, Google Analytics does not load and no analytics cookies are set. You can change your choice at any time with the “Cookie settings” link at the bottom of every page.

Cookie or storage Set by What it is for How long it lasts
_GRECAPTCHA (cookie) and _grecaptcha (local storage) Google reCAPTCHA (google.com) Protects our contact form from spam by checking that a person, not a bot, is sending the message. Up to 6 months
_ga, _ga_SLK95JZD6J Google Analytics 4 (set on pigeonpedia.com) Only with your consent. Counts visits and shows which pages are read, so we know which guides are useful. Google says Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. 2 years
cookieyes-consent pigeonpedia.com (CookieYes) Remembers your cookie choice so we do not ask again on every page. 1 year
wordpress_*, wp-settings-* pigeonpedia.com Only set if you log in to the site (site authors and editors). Session to 1 year
comment_author_* pigeonpedia.com Only set if you leave a comment and tick the box to save your details. 1 year

The reCAPTCHA check is used only on the contact page, where it is needed to keep the form free of spam.

Content from other websites

Some articles include material hosted by other services. These services can see that your browser loaded it, and they may set their own cookies under their own policies.

  • YouTube videos. Videos show a preview image (loaded from i.ytimg.com) and only load from YouTube when you press play. We use YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com), which YouTube says does not store cookies until you play the video. See Google’s privacy policy.
  • Pinterest pins. Some breed guides show pictures embedded from Pinterest. Loading them sends a request to Pinterest. See Pinterest’s privacy policy.
  • Shopping links. Some articles link to products on Amazon. A small script from Geniuslink (geniuslinkcdn.com) sends you to the Amazon store for your country. If you click a link and buy something, we may earn a commission. Amazon sets its own cookies once you are on its site.

Managing cookies

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking the reCAPTCHA cookie may stop the contact form from working. The ICO’s guide to cookies explains how to control them.

Changes to this policy

If we add new cookies, we will update this page and ask for your consent where the law requires it.
